A Vibrant Term of Learning, Leadership and Milestones

A Message from the Principal

Welcome back to the final term of 2025. It’s great to see our School Community return with fresh energy and motivation. This term brings a chance to build on the year’s progress, support one another and finish strong together.

The first few weeks of term have seen our Year 12 students commence their HSC exams, beginning with English last Thursday. I want to extend my congratulations to each and every one of them. The first exam is always a significant milestone, and I hope our Year 12s feel proud of the effort that has brought them this far. Each step forward reflects the dedication you’ve shown throughout your learning journey. Keep going with confidence and trust in the preparation and hard work you’ve invested. The sense of accomplishment that awaits will be incredibly rewarding. Remember, success is built on perseverance, courage and the support of those around you.

I would also like to thank our entire student body and staff for the quiet determination and respect you have shown during this period. Your efforts to create a calm focused environment have made a real difference for our Year 12s, allowing them the space to give their very best.

Looking ahead, Term 4 promises to be vibrant and busy. This week, we concluded The Ultimo Series for 2025 with an insightful presentation by psychologist Marina Bailey, bringing to a close a year of exceptional speakers and thought-provoking discussions.  The excitement of SAGE Week is building, with students preparing for hands-on, collaborative learning experiences that will take them from the classroom to The Rocks and the pristine landscapes of Tasmania. From the Year 7 Shakespeare Bootcamp to Year 8 The Rocks Quest, Year 9 Opera on Kelly Street and Year 10 Tasmania: Writing the Island, our middle school students are in for life changing learning experiences. Our orientation mornings are buzzing with new faces and fresh enthusiasm as we welcome the next generation of IGS students and families into our Community.

At our next High School Assembly in Week 4 we will announce our 2026 School Leaders – a proud moment for our School Community. Across the term students will take part in education camps, various End of Year Showcases, representative sports events and more.

On 13 November, we will come together for Giving Day, which will also serve as the official launch of The IGS Foundation – a milestone that marks a new chapter in our School’s story of generosity and vision. Later in the term, we look forward to our inaugural Speech Night on 8 December – a celebration of achievement, creativity and the spirit that unites us all. This special evening will also feature the announcement of our next school musical, a moment I am delighted to share with you on the night.

As we progress through these final months of 2025, I encourage everyone to keep our whole School goal to Build Good Work and Good Character Every Day front of mind. This guiding principle has shaped our year and continues to unite us as a community. It’s about what happens in the classroom and it’s also about the way we learn, teach, support and engage with one another across the School. When our students leave school and step into the world, they will be recognised not only for the quality of their work but for the strength of their character. Let’s approach each day with purpose and pride, striving to reflect these values in all we do.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our shared vision. I look forward to the achievements and moments that will make this term a memorable conclusion to the year.

Warm regards,

Shauna Colnan
Principal
