A Kaleidoscope of Creativity

A Message from the Principal

As we approach the last week of Term 2, I want to take a moment to celebrate the extraordinary energy, creativity and character that have defined our School Community over the past eight weeks. It has been a term that has reminded us of the joy of learning and the strength of our shared purpose.

One of the most unforgettable highlights this term has been our School musical Mamma Mia!. What a triumph! From the moment the curtain rose, it was clear that something magical was unfolding. The quality of the performance – the singing, acting, choreography, orchestra, staging, lighting and costumes – was simply breathtaking. Our students rose to the challenge with passion and excellence, transforming the vision of the production team into a life-changing experience. I extend my thanks to Darren Kuilenburg, Peter Adam, and the entire team whose dedication and artistry made this possible.

From the joyful burst of colour at the High School Colour Run to the flair of our Rock Band Competition and Theatresports, our students have brought creativity and spirit to every corner of the School. Thank you to Community Relations Manager Paul Galea and every participant and generous donor who made the Colour Run such a great success – raising an astounding $40,000 for the School’s Indigenous Scholarship and Building Funds! Congratulations to Team Kuyal who, together, raised $18,580.

The Primary School Disco, made possible by our wonderful P&C, was full of energy and fun, while excursions and outdoor learning experiences invited students to step into history and explore the world around them with curiosity and delight – it’s been a term rich with imagination and expression.

Our sporting calendar has been equally spirited across our Cross Country, Athletics Carnival, and CDSSA and AICES events.

We also marked National Reconciliation Week, where our Community came together in reflection and learning, honouring truth-telling and connection to Country.

And in a powerful instalment of The Ultimo Series, Deputy Principal Academic Thom Marchbank welcomed Dr Sandra Peter for her lecture Leading the Future with AI. Her insights into the evolving role of artificial intelligence in education sparked thoughtful dialogue across our school community and reaffirmed our commitment to preparing students to be world ready.

Looking ahead to Term 3, I am delighted to announce the promotion of Sarah Herbert to the role of Deputy Principal Junior School. Sarah’s work at IGS has been transformational. Her leadership in early childhood and children’s programs has consistently reflected evidence-based best practice and a deep commitment to inclusive, child-centred education. With a career spanning over two decades, Sarah brings a wealth of experience, vision and heart to this new role. I know she will continue to lead with integrity, creativity and care, and I invite you all to join me in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment. Sarah will work closely with Head of the Primary School Colin Bird and Director of Early Learning Victoria Kirkwood to ensure that the journey from Early Learning through the Primary School and across the Clubs Program, After School Care and Vacation Care is characterised by a vision of excellence and strong operational delivery of the educational program.

Thank you to our students, staff, parents and carers for the contribution you have made this term. Whether in the classroom, on stage, on the sports field or in quiet moments of kindness, you have helped shape a term filled with meaning and joy.

I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating winter break and look forward to welcoming you all back in Term 3.

Warm regards,

Shauna Colnan
Principal
