A German carnival

Children in Early Learning have been celebrating with crafts, music and dancing.

“Fasching” is the German version of Carnivale, celebrated in countries such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium.

It is particularly popular in the Rhineland, especially in Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Aachen and Mainz.

“During ‘Rosenmontag’ many streets come to life with colorful parades, loud music, and celebrations around every corner,” said Early Learning German Educator Giulia Schmidt.

“The celebrations date back hundreds of years, rooted in both Catholic and early-Germanic traditions.

“Children in Germany enjoy dressing up and engage in lots of dancing and singing!”

At IGS, the children enjoyed working with Giulia Schmidt and fellow German Language Educator Amanda Pregl as they sang, danced and made masks.
