Year 11 student Dylan M recently completed an exciting work experience placement with POLAIR at Bankstown Airport in late January. Immersed in the daily operations of the NSW Police aviation unit, Dylan gained first-hand insight into aviation procedures, police responsibilities and the structured rhythm of a professional working environment. From early morning pre-flight preparations and operational briefings to observing specialised training and visiting key NSW Police units, the experience offered a meaningful and inspiring glimpse into future pathways in both aviation and policing.
“During my PolAir work experience at Bankstown Airport, I gained valuable insight into NSW Police aviation operations. I toured the base, hangar and aircraft, learning how helicopters and fixed wing aircraft are dispatched, maintained and equipped with advanced mapping and camera systems. I observed pre-flight checks, operated the search camera and visited the Air Traffic Control Tower to understand how aircraft movements are safely coordinated. I also watched fast-rope and winch training in the Royal National Park. On the final day, I visited specialist NSW Police units including the Mounted Unit, Marine Area Command and Dog Unit. Overall, the experience gave me a strong appreciation of the skill, teamwork and dedication required for careers in both the aviation industry and the NSW Police Force.” – Dylan M
Congratulations, Dylan!
