WITWAT OZLEM HUSEYIN 2003

After school, my love of children and music led me to complete a Bachelor of Music Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I soon realised music was better kept as a hobby so I followed my curiosity into world politics and international law, completing a Masters of International Relations. I was then appointed Commissioner of the Community Relations Commission for Multicultural NSW, where I had the privilege of supporting multicultural communities across urban and rural NSW and helping turn community voices into meaningful action.

My love of learning and curiosity didn’t stop there. I went on to complete a second Master’s degree in International Trade and Commerce Law before work and life led me to Canberra. I fell in love with the city’s quieter pace and decided to make the move permanent – or so I thought.

In Canberra I found my way into finance before moving into training new recruits and developing training manuals, reconnecting with my interest in teaching.

When my sister moved to Melbourne I followed, finding a new role in psychometric testing, working with HR representatives to support stronger, more cohesive teams.

These days I work at Melbourne Water as a Property Sales Manager. This role allows me to continue contributing to the community through my involvement in the Belonging Framework and active role in the First People’s working group, whilst also giving me precious time with my two beautiful nieces.

Looking back, I am grateful for my time at IGS. It helped fuel my passion for multicultural communities and my teachers nurtured my curiosity and love of learning. This gave me the confidence to continue growing and to explore new sectors while embracing the unexpected turns along the way.
