The IGS Beginning to Belonging program for Kindergarten 2026 began this week, as Year 6 students warmly greeted the incoming Kindergarten class at the school gates – marking the start of an exciting new journey for our youngest learners.
This bespoke transition program helps children adapt to daily school life while building friendships with their future classmates. An information session provided parents and caregivers with valuable insights into school routines and curriculum, while also fostering meaningful connections within the IGS Community.
Deputy Principal Junior School Sarah Herbert shared her thoughts about the program by saying, “It was wonderful welcoming parents and carers of next year’s IGS Kindergarten to the information evening and orientation program. We’re delighted to be part of their next significant milestone, starting school. The graduating class of 2038 stepped into the beautiful Kindergarten Centre for their first familiarisation visit and engaged in a wide range of classroom activities and experiences led by our Kindergarten Teachers as well as joyful exploration of the Kindergarten Centre playground and giant slide! The Beginning to Belonging transition program will see the Kindergarten class of 2026 return for additional orientation visits on Thursdays 31 October and 7 November. We’re also looking forward to welcoming parents and carers of Kindergarten 2026 to a special morning tea on 7 November to celebrate the conclusion of the program, and hosted by our P&C”.
At IGS, we recognise that the transition to school has far-reaching effects on children’s learning, social development, and long-term attitudes toward education. The Beginning to Belonging program was designed in response to these understandings, ensuring every child – and their family – feels connected, confident and supported from the very first day.
Beginning to Belonging introduces our future Kindergarten students to the joy of learning in a safe and nurturing environment, laying the foundation for a positive and successful school experience – it’s the first step in a lifelong journey of learning, connection and community.
