For more than a decade, Wear It Purple Day has been a tradition at IGS, celebrating diversity and inclusion across our School community.
This year’s celebration began at the front of the School, where students decorated the pavement with chalk while the P&C shared colourful pencils and bracelets, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere as families and students made their way through the gates.
Once inside, the High School assembly opened with a vibrant student performance of Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club, which set a celebratory tone for the morning. The Senior Choir then followed with a moving performance of True Colours, showcasing both range and unity in their voices.
The assembly continued with a student-made video before we welcomed our guest speaker, Sophie Hay from Wear It Purple’s Youth Action Council. Sophie spoke to students about the importance of being an ally and supporting young people from a range of backgrounds and identities. She also reflected on the atmosphere outside the School earlier that day, sharing that it was the greatest Wear It Purple morning she had ever seen.
The celebrations extended into morning tea, where teachers and staff were treated to purple donuts. Later, Year 11 students ran a lively barbeque complete with slushies and music from DJ Toohey, raising funds to support Wear It Purple.
Thank you to Principal Shauna Colnan, Head of Year 10 Jarrod Martin, and our wonderful IGS P&C whose thoughtful planning and dedication over the past weeks ensured that our students and community felt seen, supported and celebrated.
