Trilled with new competition

Congratulations to all the entrants in the inaugural IGS piano competition, stretching the bounds of their personal achievement after months and years of careful practice.

This prestigious event on the Music Calendar was presented in the recently refurbished Music Performance Space on Level 3 of the Kelly Street Building.

Hosted by Head of Music Performance Mr Nathanael Primrose-Heaney, the competition showcased the emerging talents of students studying piano across the Primary School and High School.

The aim of the IGS Piano Competition is to encourage and support excellence in the performance of classical and contemporary piano music by showcasing the talents of young pianists. Across different stages of their learning journey in piano studies, students presented two contrasting works in front of a live audience and were adjudicated by Dr Kirill Monorosi, an Australian pianist, composer and musicologist.

“As we continue to build a performance culture at IGS through the provision of academic performance masterclass, assembly presentations and community concerts, the Music Competition Series sits alongside our strategic goals for 2023,” said IGS Director of Music Darren Kuilenburg.

“These competitions allow IGS students to flourish through enrichment opportunities that grow courageous, altruistic and adaptable individuals.”

Congratulations to all who took part, including those whose performances most impressed the adjudicator during the event.
