The Rhythm of Indonesia

Year 5 students at IGS took part in a lively Indonesian dance and percussion workshop with Suara Indonesian Dance Company. The incursion introduced students to body percussion, vocal melodies and intricate dance movements drawn from Indonesia’s musical traditions.

Students donned Randai drumming pants and explored how movement and sound connect through traditional songs and routines. Indonesian street food added a hands-on cultural element, and instructors guided movements inspired by the waves and flow of Acehnese landscapes.

A vibrant performance filled the School hall as families gathered to enjoy the occasion. Head of Primary School Music Nik Glass said the day offered enjoyment and a cultural connection through movement and song.

Thank you to Head of Primary School Music Nik Glass and the Primary School Music Department for organising this opportunity.
