Student Leaders visit the Parliament House

IGS Head Boy  Oscar and Head Girl Mollie recently had the opportunity to visit both NSW Parliament House and Government House.

Two students in school uniforms stand at the foot of a grand staircase in an ornate hall, surrounded by portraits and coats of arms, with a large portrait of a woman in white above the stairs.

Hearing from Members of Parliament representing a range of electorates offered valuable insights into leadership, with a strong emphasis on the importance of listening to others in order to effectively serve the community.

They also witnessed Question Time in both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council – an experience that, according to Mollie, “it was both educational and highly entertaining. I think I can speak for Oscar as well when I say that was our favourite part of the day.”

The students particularly valued the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the electoral system and voting process, especially as they look ahead to participating in future state elections.

Their visit concluded at the historic Government House where they heard from the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley. Following her address Oscar and Mollie had the privilege of speaking with her in the gardens.

The experience was both inspiring and encouraging, strengthening their interest in politics and providing a meaningful opportunity to connect with leaders who are actively making a positive impact in their communities.
