On Wednesday 27 May, the IGS Early Learning Centre (ELC) joined schools, libraries and early learning centres across Australia in celebrating a cherished annual tradition on their calendar, the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) 2026.

Each year, a Year 12 student portfolio leader shares the featured story with the children, fostering meaningful connections between our youngest learners and senior students. This year, Year 12 student and Bibliothèque Portfolio Leader Ellie brought to life this year’s featured story Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller through a joyful and engaging reading on the grand steps of the Bibliothèque.
The lively story written by former footballers Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake Minton and published by Little Book Press follows Luna Roo, rookie captain of FC Outback, as she navigates a high-energy match filled with challenges, teamwork and determination. Along the way, Luna learns to trust her abilities and work together with her teammates to overcome obstacles on the field.
National Simultaneous Storytime highlights the importance of early literacy and fosters a lifelong love of reading among young people. From attentive listening to moments of laughter and excitement, the event was a wonderful celebration of storytelling, imagination and community.
