Primary in Motion

It’s been a vibrant few weeks in Primary sport, with students embracing a wide range of activities. From the high-energy Athletics Carnival to the start of our gymnastics unit and some standout performances on the snowfields of Thredbo. Here’s a snapshot of the latest highlights from the Primary PDHPE program.

Athletics Carnival

Last Friday, the Year 3 to 6 Athletics Carnival marked the second last Carnival in what has been a brilliant year of School sports events.

The track and field came to life as students challenged themselves and one another in events that tested both strength and speed. Students got the opportunity to try shot put, turbo javelin, high jump, long jump and discus as well as relays, long distance events and of course, the 100 metre sprint.

A highlight of the day was the staggered championship race, featuring the fastest 100m runners from each year group (Years 8 to 12).

Rydah started from the go in the girls’ race and led from the outset, holding off the rest of the field in an impressive finish. In the boys’ final, Dexter started 2.5 seconds behind but stormed through the pack to claim victory. With that result, Dexter now holds the title of King of the Track and Pool for 2025 – a rare and impressive double. A special congratulations goes to Rydah and Dexter, crowned Queen and King of the Track.

Age champions and the winning House will be announced at the end of term – stay tuned.

A huge thank you to Ms Haynes and the Primary PDHPE staff for running such a smooth event – and a warm welcome back to Ms Whitaker.

With some impressive running on display, the excitement isn’t over yet. The Primary School Colour Run is just around the corner.

snow show

Three IGS students hit the snow in Thredbo last week, competing in the Alpine and Ski Cross events at the Interschools SnowSports Championships. A special mention to Julian D in Year 3, who placed 21st in Ski Cross!

Gymnastics has started

Our gymnastics unit has kicked off with students learning fun floor exercises, showing great strength and flexibility as they practise new moves and skills. Year 4 students have been asked to challenge their parents and caregivers to a Bring Sally Up squat challenge. Who is up for the task?
