Over the school holidays, Year 9 student Ruben S put in a series of exceptional performances on the track, representing IGS at the New Zealand Schools Track Championships.
Competing in the omnium, a demanding event made up of four races across a single day, Ruben secured an impressive second place finish. He also competed in the Team Sprint, pairing with a fellow cyclist from a Christchurch school. Together, the duo were the fastest team, with Ruben recording the quickest legs in every race.
Ruben also took on the New Zealand National Track Series, racing against mostly Under 19 competitors. As the youngest rider in the field, he held his own and achieved strong results against older and more experienced athletes, continuing to build his reputation as a rising star in the sport.
Back in Australia, Ruben wrapped up his holidays with another outstanding result: second place in the Junior Tour of Sydney. He competed in the Under 17 category, despite being only 14 years old.
Congratulations Ruben on these incredible achievements. We look forward to following your continued journey on the track.
