Introducing the 2026 Leadership Team

In 2025, Deputy Principal Sarah Herbert led the formation of our Junior School, bringing together the Early Learning Centre, Out of School Hours Care, Primary Clubs and the Primary School. This work is strengthening alignment across these areas and supports a smooth, well-considered transition into Year 7—ensuring every child’s journey through school is connected, joyful and purposeful.

As we move into 2026, we’re taking the next step by refining our school structures from Year 7 to Year 12, so they better reflect the changing needs of students as they grow. Our focus remains clear: every student is known, valued and supported to thrive—academically, socially and emotionally—through the middle and senior years.

To support this, we have reshaped the portfolios of our experienced senior leaders to sharpen the focus on students’ developmental and learning needs in Years 7–10, and to provide strong preparation for the demands and opportunities of Years 11–12.

We’re pleased to share our 2026 leadership structure across the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools.

Senior School (Years 11–12)

  • Deputy Principal, Senior School – Thom Marchbank
  • Head of Senior School – Alec Openshaw

Middle School (Years 7–10)

  • Deputy Principal, Middle School – Mary Duma
  • Head of Middle School – Anthony Dennehy
  • Deputy Head of Middle School – Fabian Madrini

Junior School (Early Learning – Year 6)

  • Deputy Principal, Junior School – Sarah Herbert
  • Head of Primary School – Colin Bird
  • Deputy Head of Primary School, Teaching and Learning – Julia Preece
  • Head of Early Learning – Victoria Kirkwood
  • Deputy Head of Early Learning – Fateema Sabsabi

In the Middle and Senior Schools, Deputy Principals oversee the educational program, with a strong focus on curriculum, assessment and reporting. Heads of School lead the student experience, including wellbeing, attendance, leadership, culture and engagement. Deputy Heads of School manage daily operations, community connections, behaviour and classroom excellence.

A sense of belonging to IGS is what we will continue to foster and so together, this cross-school leadership team under our Principal Shauna Colnan will ensure students continue to feel part of one connected community through shared experiences such as ArtsFest and IGS Connect with a focus more on continuity than change.

As the year begins, parents and carers are encouraged to contact their child’s home class teacher in Primary, or the Head of Year in Years 7–12, as the first point of contact.

Our senior team is excited to step into these roles and to work in close partnership with staff, families and—most importantly—our students.
