IGS Class of 2025 graduate Tomas Mimmocchi started at IGS part way through Year 7 and thrived.
Nominated for 2025 HSC Musicology showcase ENCORE, Tomas also received a Speech Night Principal’s Outstanding Effort Award and achieved IGS First Place in Music 2.

“My favourite part of being at IGS was being on the History Debating team,” Tom said.
He also enjoyed the culture at IGS, open to change and input from all members of the community.
“I started a group with Mr Miller playing the board game Diplomacy, and our group kept playing once a week for two and a half years.”
Tomas also loved being able to access so many different and interesting subjects, always with the support of teachers.
The talented musician is a viola player and member of the Sydney Youth Orchestra.
Having undertaken Film Studies at IGS in Year 10, Tomas is also creating a film with his friends over the next year.
For his Musicology Major Work, Tomas explored music, culture and nationalism with a particular focus on Dvorak and Mahler.
“Music can shape cultural identity,” he said. “Ideas can be taken from one culture to another. People’s identities evolve with the influence of music.”
With his interest in arts and history, Simon is interested in eventually studying international law.
His advice to younger students is to “choose subjects that really interest you and really draw you into the material so that you are compelled to keep exploring that with the help of teachers”.
“Your subjects will need to sustain your interest across two years of HSC courses.”
We wish Tomas and all his former IGS classmates the very best for their futures.
