International Grammar School has been named a finalist in the 2025 NSW Sustainability Awards, recognised in the Minister’s Young Climate Champion Award category.

This prestigious award celebrates young innovators under 18 who are driving real change for a sustainable future, and the IGS nomination stood out for its impact, clarity and ambition.
Our finalist entry highlighted the School’s long-running student-led Sustainable Futures initiative, which began in 2017 with a small group of passionate students and has since grown into a powerful force for change. Through projects including Climate Fresk workshops, waste audits, solar installations, petitions and community partnerships, IGS students have embedded sustainability in daily practice and inspired others to act.
This recognition is a testament to the collective effort of many students and staff who have contributed to sustainability initiatives across the years, and in particular to the leadership of Year 12 student Lilla S L and new Sustainability Portfolio Leader Toby C, who continue to motivate peers to take meaningful climate action.
The Awards Ceremony will be held on 9 December at the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Congratulations to our IGS Sustainable Futures and Carmelo Fedele Head of Sustainability on this inspiring achievement – a reflection of our shared belief that young people, when empowered, can be powerful drivers of change for a more sustainable world.
