IGS Decathletes Take on the State

Seventeen enthusiastic and determined IGS students recently took part in the State Da Vinci Decathlon at Knox Grammar School, joining one of the largest academic gatherings in New South Wales for primary students. With 74 Year 5 teams and 84 Year 6 teams competing from across the state, the atmosphere buzzed with creativity, curiosity and healthy competition.

Throughout the day, our students demonstrated exceptional teamwork, perseverance and intellectual agility as they tackled the Decathlon’s ten demanding disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code-breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.

What stood out most was the way our students supported one another. Whether designing a lifting device, cracking a cipher, or crafting a poem under time pressure, they approached each challenge with respect, curiosity and a genuine commitment to doing their best as a team.

Both Mrs Sullivan and Mr Linton noted the students’ ability to stay focused, think flexibly and draw on each other’s strengths – qualities that sit at the heart of the Da Vinci Decathlon and reflect the values we nurture at IGS.

These two teams will carry their momentum into our in-house Da Vinci Decathlon, competing against other Stage 3 students who have been training throughout the term. Matches begin in Week 6, every Tuesday at lunchtime – a great opportunity to see these skills in action closer to home.
