IGS Board Member Wins Sydney Hobart Race

Meet Michael Heenan

Michael Heenan, one of our School Board Members, recently showcased his leadership and strategic thinking on the water, sailing on the famous Yacht Love and War to a division win in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2024. Sailing alongside Commodore Stephen McCullum (Rowdy),  Michael played a pivotal role as watch captain and helmsman.

In an engaging interview, he reflects on the race’s challenges, the importance of teamwork, and the balance between data-driven decision-making and instinctive sailing. The conversation captures the camaraderie and meticulous preparation that led to their remarkable division win.

The Premier of Tasmania, The Honourable Jeremy Rockliff, presented Michael with a 25 Sydney to Hobarts medallion. Congratulations Michael!
