IGS Advances to Theatresports Semi-Finals

Congratulations to our Senior Theatresports team for their outstanding result at the Theatresports Schools’ Challenge Senior High School, hosted by Impro Australia.

Representing IGS with creativity, Anna, Kai, Margot and Orla, under the guidance of their coach and former IGS Head Girl Antigone Marchbank, tied for second place on the night with Saint Andrew’s Cathedral School, finishing just one point behind first place with an impressive score of 49 points.

Opening the competition with confidence, the team earned the only score of 5 in the first round for a one-minute gibberish scene that transformed a funeral into a wedding. They followed with a fast-paced historical replay of a medical scene set across the Stone Age, Ancient Rome and Elizabethan England. In the second round, their open scene explored the metaphysical nature of dreams through rich symbolism, before closing the night with a hilarious three-minute reimagining of Sleeping Beauty set on a cooking show.

A lively audience of supportive parents and enthusiastic IGS students, including Year 12 leaders Zainab and Ollie, cheered the team on throughout the evening.

The team now progresses to the semi-finals, to be held at Sydney Grammar School. Tickets will be available at the door for those wishing to come along and support them.

Student reflections

“Last night we competed in the Theatresports School’s Competition hosted by Impro Australia, working with many different talented teams to put on a never-before-seen night of scenes, ranging from comedy to Shakespearean drama. Our team (sporting fairy wings and a crown) battled through the first heat, consistently scoring fives in each scene and coming second overall. Our on-stage highlight was when we managed to turn a funeral into a zombie wedding. The best part of the night though, was the amazing connections we made across schools. We met students from Wollongong through to Killara, who we laughed and cheered with for the whole night. We look forward to the next heat, competing for the chance to be in the Grand Finals at the Enmore Theatre.”  – Anna M and Margot M

“Through the power of teamwork, we created a dreamscape in our Open Scene, scoring outstanding marks.” – Kai H

“Theatresports is always a joy to be part of. I feel so lucky to perform with my friends, and I can’t wait to be back on the stage soon! Thank you to our coach, Tiggy, for your guidance, and Ms Morabito for your endless support!” – Orla O’R
