2025 HSC All-round Achiever Anna Sulan

IGS graduate Anna Sulan never thought of herself as particularly academic, but after achieving an ATAR of 95.3 and being named as an HSC All-round Achiever, she is changing her mind.

Anna joined IGS midway through Year 10.

“It was amazing, such a good move for me,” she said, describing IGS as “totally different” from her previous school.

“Everyone was so incredibly welcoming. I found my group with teachers and subjects. Something clicked in Year 10, and Year 11 cemented it.

“I am an independent learner and IGS is focused on a lot of students working independently. It really suited me, having the motivation to do well.

“I chose subjects I was passionate about, which made it easy to study. It felt less like study and more like things I was really interested in. It was about having passion for the subject, rather than striving for a certain mark.”

To her surprise, she achieved first place in Mathematics Standard in Year 11.

“I naturally gravitate towards writing, and I had to work at it a little harder.”

Her favourite subjects were English Extension 1, which she topped, and English Extension 2, in which she placed second with a work of creative non-fiction about feminist theory and women in Greek and other mythology.

“It was a narrative examining the role of women in society,” she said.

Anna said she was fortunate to attend Oxford Royale summer school for two weeks while at IGS, studying history, literature and philosophy with other international students.

“Realising I could keep up at a high level gave me more confidence,” she said.

Currently working in pre-Christmas retail, Anna plans to move to Wollongong in early 2026 to attend the University of Wollongong to study Arts, majoring in English Literature, with a view to become a primary school teacher.

With Anna, we congratulate all our IGS graduates as they step out into the world.
