Honouring Our Beginnings

On 3 February, IGS celebrates 42 years since its founding in 1984. A moment to reflect, celebrate and give thanks for the remarkable community we have built together, keeping alive the legacy of our founder Reg St Leon.

Each year on Foundation Day, our student leaders welcome the community at the front gate with apples, a simple yet meaningful gesture symbolising appreciation, wellbeing and the strong foundations of IGS. This year, the day was also marked by a Smoking Ceremony led by proud Aboriginal man and IGS parent Tim Bishop, offering a moment of reflection, respect and connection for our community. It is also a time to acknowledge those who came before us – our founder Reg St Leon, the trailblazing educators and the families who believed in the School’s vision from the very beginning.

From a modest start, with only 44 students, IGS has grown into a vibrant, multilingual school grounded in language learning and Unity Through Diversity, honouring our past while celebrating the values that continue to shape globally minded, connected and compassionate learners today.

Here’s to 42 years of learning, leadership and community, and to the many chapters still to come.
