Honouring Journeys Together In Celebration

A Message from the Principal

What a term it has been! The past weeks have been so special – vibrant with celebration, colour and a sense of joy that has swept across our campus. Students, staff and families have come together to mark milestones, embrace new adventures and share in the spirit of our unique school.

This week we honoured and farewelled the Graduating Class of 2025 with a series of events that brought our community together in celebration and reflection. From the cherished Taronga Zoo visit with Year 12 and Kindergarten, symbolising the full circle of learning and connection, to the Graduation Dinner at Le Montage, every moment has been a testament to the journey our students have taken. At the Graduation Dinner, we shared the theme The World is Your Oyster expressing the confidence we have in each of our grads. They have grown into remarkable young people, ready to take on the world and discover its many pearls. To them I say, as you approach your final HSC examinations, know that we are cheering you on every step of the way. Take in this moment – you’ve earned it. Be bold, be kind and trust yourselves. We will miss you Year 12!

This week has also been filled with moments of gratitude and camaraderie – from the Luna Park adventure to this morning’s beautiful Graduation Assembly and this afternoon’s Guard of Honour, where the students gathered in a moving tribute to the Class of 2025. These occasions have highlighted the unity and spirit of our community. As we close this chapter for Year 12, I also want to acknowledge our Year 11 students, who have completed their preliminary HSC year with diligence and focus, supported by their teachers and peers.

While Year 12 has been at the centre of our celebrations, the spirit of IGS has been alive throughout the school. Over the weekend, 38 of our middle school students set off for their exchange adventures in Madrid and Osaka, embracing new cultures and forging global connections. Our junior school colour run brought community spirit to Wentworth Park, raising $6,846 toward our Indigenous Scholarship and Building Fund.

Last week’s junior school assembly highlighted our students’ musical and sporting talents, while the K–2 celebration of learning showcased curiosity and discovery. R U OK Day fostered meaningful conversations around wellbeing, and Family Day at The Retreat in Kangaroo Valley brought IGS families together to connect for a springtime experience at our rural campus in the Southern Highlands.

Our High School students shone at the HICES Music Festival, joining peers from across NSW for ensemble rehearsals and a culminating concert at Sydney Town Hall. Students from Years 3–6 also represented IGS at the IPSHA Performing Arts Festival, delivering a beautiful performance that reflected their artistry and pride in representing their school. Meanwhile, the IGS Vocal Competition inspired singers from Years 5–12 to explore a diverse repertoire, celebrating vocal diversity and nurturing the next generation of talent.

Looking ahead to Term 4, our calendar is brimming with opportunities for growth and creativity. SAGE Week will invite students into hands-on collaborative learning experiences at school, in The Rocks and across the pristine landscapes of Tasmania as Year 10 undertakes their expedition to write the island. The HSC Exams will be a significant milestone for our senior students and we wish them well as they begin their final period of study during stuvac over the next two weeks. School showcases and Speech Night in December will bring our community together to celebrate achievements and set the stage for new adventures. I encourage our students to continue reflecting and acting in alignment with our whole school goal to Build Good Work and Good Character Every Day – a guiding principle that will continue to challenge and inspire us all to be the best versions of ourselves.

Thank you to every student, staff and family member for your contributions this term and especially to the P&C for your support. Whether in moments of celebration or quiet perseverance, you have all helped shape a term filled with meaning and joy. I wish you all a restful break and look forward to welcoming your children back for a vibrant and inspiring Term 4.

Warm regards

Shauna Colnan
