Happy Pi Day!

Year 6 students brought Pi Day to life a day early, celebrating on Friday ahead of the official date on Saturday 14 March.

The students spent the day exploring the famous number π and its special connection to circles. It was a blend of logic and creativity, with activities ranging from using an online demonstration to investigate the relationship between circumference and diameter, to hunting for their own birthdays hidden deep within pi’s endless sequence. We even brought some art into the mix with colouring competitions and freehand circle drawing!

A huge congratulations to the winners of our Pi Day challenges:

  • Sarina recited an incredible 76 digits of pi
  • Alex won the freehand circle drawing challenge AND recited 43 digits
  • Maya and James T took out the top spots in the colouring competition and
  • Anton was the only student to successfully complete the tricky Pi Day word search.

This event was a wonderful opportunity for the students to experience math in a fun, interactive way. It was great to see so much curiosity and creativity sparked by one of the most fascinating numbers in mathematics!
