Recently, the IGS community gathered for a special screening of Damon Gameau’s Future Council, a powerful short documentary derived from his renowned film, 2040. Parents, students, staff and friends filled the Bibliothèque Amphitheatre to watch the film, which follows eight diverse young people from around the world on their journey to imagine a better future, not through fear, but through practical, existing solutions.
The film was a profoundly emotive experience that left the audience with a strong sense of hope and empowered optimism. It beautifully showcased how technologies and practices, like renewable energy and regenerative agriculture, are already available to drastically improve our planet and our societies. Moving beyond a focus on the dire warnings, the documentary provided a refreshing and necessary shift in perspective: the future we want is entirely possible, and it’s up to us to co-create it.
Following the inspiring screening, the conversation continued with a Q&A session featuring Nic Seton, CEO of Parents for Climate. The discussion was thoughtfully hosted by our own Sustainability Portfolio Leader, Toby Carmody.
Nic shared valuable insights into how parents and the wider community can move from concern to effective action, emphasising the importance of collective advocacy in shaping policy and supporting sustainable initiatives at all levels, from the dinner table to the government. The discussion underscored the power of local communities, like IGS, in driving global change and ensuring a thriving future for our children.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a memorable and motivating evening. And special thanks to Carmelo Fedele Head of Sustainability, for organising this enriching event for our community.
