Embracing Global Learning at Oxford

Over the school break, Year 12 student Anna S took her passion for learning to the next level, attending the Oxford Royale Summer Program at the University of Oxford. Anna immersed herself in a course that combined History, Literature and Philosophy, extending her senior studies at IGS through globally minded, debate-rich learning experiences.

“Lessons were structured mainly as debates and discussions,” Anna said. “Students from around the world – Israel, the USA, Germany, France – brought a wide range of perspectives, particularly during political and religious debates. It really pushed us to think deeply and articulate our ideas clearly.”

Anna’s experience is one example of the unique opportunities offered through IGS’s global education program, empowering students to build intercultural understanding, confidence and academic ambition. During her time at Oxford, Anna stayed on campus and attended a number of keynote lectures and special events, including an inspiring session led by renowned physicist and broadcaster, Professor Brian Cox.

The program also inspired Anna to rethink her post-school goals. “I originally planned to study primary teaching,” she said, “but now I want to pursue an undergraduate degree in Arts or English, followed by a master’s in Primary Teaching. I want to continue with English at university.”

Beyond the classroom, Anna formed lasting friendships with peers from across the globe. “I’ve made lots of international friends I hope to reconnect with during my gap year in 2026,” she said.

Anna encourages other IGS students – especially those in Year 11 – to explore opportunities like Oxford Royale. “It’s a chance to learn, grow and connect with the world in ways that go far beyond the classroom,” she said.

Principal Shauna Colnan praised Anna’s initiative: “It’s wonderful to see such a brilliant student take up this life-changing opportunity.”

Anna’s experience stands as a powerful reminder of the value of global education in shaping thoughtful, articulate and compassionate future leaders. Congratulations on this achievement!
