ELC Showcase Celebrates ‘Belonging Together’

The Early Learning Centre brought the IGS community together for a heart-warming celebration of culture, language and music at the 2025 ELC Showcase, proudly themed Belonging Together.

Across two joyful performances, children from Burraga, Bundaluk, Jungaa and Garrawan showcased the richness of their learning this year. The theme was brought to life through a vibrant collection of songs that highlighted unity, diversity and the simple joy of belonging – whether through stories of people, animals or our shared Australian landscape.

Rooted in IGS’s longstanding commitment to bilingual education and Unity Through Diversity, the ELC program continues to nurture curious, confident and globally-minded young learners. Throughout the year, children have engaged in intentional and immersive language and music experiences that form the foundation of their growth. Today’s Showcase offered families a window into this journey.

Students delighted their families with songs in Chinese, Italian, French, German and Japanese, demonstrating their developing language awareness and cultural understanding. Music – affectionately known as IGS’s sixth language – played a central role, connecting these languages through rhythm, melody and movement.

A highlight for many was the Australian-themed medley performed by all children, echoing familiar lines reminiscent of I Am Australian and Home Among the Gum Trees. With kangaroos, cockatoos and kookaburras woven through the lyrics, the medley celebrated the landscapes and sounds that unite us.

Classes also performed a wide repertoire of well-loved songs, including:

Burraga and Bundaluk

  • Italian: I Due Liocorni, Come Ti chiami

  • Chinese: Little Bugs Fly, Dig Dig Dig, Pulling Out a Radish

  • Music: Action Song, Stomp

  • Jingle Bells in English, Italian and Chinese

Jungaa and Garrawan

  • Japanese: Sekaino kunikara konnichiwa, Tomodachi sanka

  • French: Les petits poissons dans l’eau, Petit Jean tu danses

  • German: Dackel Waldemar, Das Lied über mich

  • Music: Action Song, Stomp

  • Jingle Bells in English, Japanese, French, German and English

As staff and families reflected on the year, there was a shared sense of pride in everything the children had achieved.

Thank you to all educators, families and, most of all, our young performers for making this year’s ELC Showcase such a memorable celebration!
