Alum of the Year 2025

Kamara was a student at IGS in the mid 80s. Her mother, Janet Gray, was one of the parents who fought to keep the school open when it was under threat around that time.

Kamara is the Founder and Artistic Director of Artistry Youth Dance, a London-based youth dance company that supports young dancers of African and Caribbean heritage. She has created meaningful opportunities for over 400 young Black dancers each year to train, perform and progress into further education and professional careers in dance. Kamara’s work centres on empowering young people through creative dance development, mentorship and high-quality dance experiences. To date, she has supported young people in receiving scholarships worth over £500,000 to study dance and musical theatre – opportunities they may not otherwise have had. Kamara remains committed to building a more diverse and equitable dance community and developing the next generation of Black dance artists.

Kamara has been recognised for her achievements in dance and has been awarded the One Dance UK, Dance in the community award, 25 Black Champions of Theatre from the Alfred Fagon Awards, finalist for the Best Teacher award at the Black British Theatre Awards, and received an Honourable mention for the AWA Women in Dance awards.

Kamara is based in London and truly exemplifies the values and ethos of International Grammar School. She is extremely excited about being 2025 IGS Alum of the Year!
