Alum Jarryd Hughes (2013) Competes at Winter Olympics

The IGS community has come together in a show of School spirit as Alum Jayrrd Hughes (2013) competes on the world stage at the current Winter Olympics for the fourth time.

Across the School, students have found meaningful ways to show their support. High School tutor groups have rallied together to create posters and messages of encouragement, filling learning spaces with colour and pride. In Primary School, our young learners have joined the celebration, with Kindergarten PE classes exploring modified snow sports inspired lessons that connect movement, imagination and global sport.

Beyond the visible displays inside the School, Jayrrd’s story has sparked deeper conversations about resilience, commitment and purpose. His journey to the Olympics stands as a clear expression of passion – one shaped not by ease, but by grit. The road to elite sport is rarely smooth and Jayrrd’s perseverance in the face of injury and repeated setbacks speaks volumes. His example reinforces the values we strive to nurture at IGS – resilience, determination and the courage to pursue big goals.

As Jayrrd competes on the global stage, the IGS community stands behind him. His journey reminds us that success is built through persistence and that the lessons learned along the way often matter most.
