On a day filled with pride and anticipation, the IGS community came together to induct our 2026 student leaders. The ceremony was a celebration of leadership, unity and the values that shape our school culture.

This annual event highlights the distinctive leadership structure at IGS. Our Portfolio Leaders champion key areas of school life – from the arts and languages to STEM and sustainability, ensuring every student has opportunities to thrive. Alongside them, our House Leaders will take the lead in upcoming sporting events and House competitions, including the eagerly awaited ArtsFest.
As part of the assembly, Principal Shauna Colnan spoke about the importance of leadership grounded in dignity. Drawing on the work of Dr Donna Hicks, author of Leading with Dignity, Principal Colnan explained that Dignity is our inherent worth – something we are all born with and must protect and nurture in ourselves and others.
Through stories of resilience and reconciliation, Principal Colnan reminded us that treating others with dignity is not only a moral imperative but a practical path to peace – within ourselves, in our relationships and in the world around us. She outlined simple yet powerful ways to honour dignity in daily life – recognising contributions, fostering belonging, practising fairness and kindness, listening deeply and being accountable. These actions are the building blocks of leadership that empowers others to flourish.
Leadership at IGS is not defined by titles alone – it is expressed through collaboration, care and connectedness. The image of a murmuration of starlings, moving in harmony, captured the spirit of what we can achieve when we work together as a community.
With these values at the heart of the assembly, we are proud to welcome our Student Leaders for 2026

Each of these leaders steps into their role as a guardian of dignity, committed to fostering inclusion, respect and excellence across our School. Their commitment to creativity, empathy and excellence sets the tone for the year ahead and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make.
We extend our thanks to the parents, carers and families who joined us for this special induction. Your support is invaluable and your presence affirms the strength of our community.
As we celebrate our new leaders and reflect on the lessons of dignity, let us remember that how we treat one another truly matters. In the words of Principal Colnan, “When you treat people well, they flourish.”
