Year 8 fairy tale spin

Let us tell you a tale about some very talented students…

This term in Year 8 English students looked at Fairy Tales, with a particular focus on how they may be subverted for a modern audience.

In Drama, as a companion to this, students looked at the techniques of Brechtian Theatre and applied them to classic stories.

Students worked in groups, adding features of the Brechtian style to the telling of a classic fairytale, which included moments of monologue, shifting modes, alienation, asides, symbolic costuming and placards.

On Wednesday, these Year 8 students had the opportunity to showcase the skills they had learnt through the re-telling of stories such as Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood to an audience of very intrigued primary students.
