Year 7 study the science of classification

Year 7 Science students are learning about Taxonomy, the science of classification during Term 3.

Science Teacher Claire Loh said students were recently tasked with fish dissection.

Students were able to explore the features of fish which are different to those of mammals, “such as gills for breathing, scales, fins, and a tail to assist with movement and a fatty liver and swim bladder to help them float at the right level in the water.”

“Some students thought they might be squeamish about dissecting and others were very keen,” Ms Loh said.

“They were all very surprised to find how interested they were in looking closely at the adaptations a fish has to help it live In its environment.”
