Year 1 study the moon

"Year 1 was so excited to finally be back at school on Wednesday," IGS Teacher Jessica Slater said.

As part of our Science unit of work, Look Up and Around, Year 1 learned about the night sky.

“We listened to an astronomer speak about what we can observe in the night sky such as stars and the moon,” Jessica said.

“We learned about constellations and designed and made our own constellations out of marshmallows and toothpicks.

“Then we explored the different phases of the moon with a torch, the sun, and a polystyrene ball and a pencil, the moon.”

Students gave their constellations names such as ‘The Big Heart’ and ‘The Jellyfish’.
