Working with wood

The IGS Bauhaus on Monday lunchtimes is a hive of industry as students create diverse projects in wood.

Woodwork teacher Michael Bullingham is enjoying passing on his skills.

“The chopping board was the first project I made,” said Michael, who has sourced the wood for the boards for IGS students from houses which had been demolished. “There were nails in some of the boards. I quite like the rustic look.”

Each student’s board is unique; designed, cut, glued, drilled, sawn, sanded, then painted with food-safe oil.

“I just like being able to use the tools, and creating something useful,” said Nik of Year 7.
