“My language exchange visit to Bad Salzuflen, Montpellier and Rovereto has been a wonderful and extremely interesting experience,” Mr Galea said.
“It has also been a very very cold experience. For the boy from Bondi and Ultimo, the temperatures in Germany and northern Italy have been a little bit too chilly.
“That being said, I have had a marvelous time and have been received like a conquering hero by the exchange organising teachers and the leaders of the exchange schools.
“This occurred despite my pretty ordinary German and French and my non-existent Italian.
“Our students have been terrific and seem to be enjoying themselves immensely. Having sat in on a couple of lessons in Germany and spoken at length with teachers in France and Italy and with our students, I feel I have a better understanding of what language exchange is all about.
“I also had a chance to visit Venice which I’ve got to say is one of my favourite places in the world. While were there, there was some flooding and I’m happy to say that my crocs were outstanding in dealing with that situation.”
