Welcoming Head of School Early Learning

IGS warmly welcomes our new Head of School Early Learning Sarah Herbert.

Sarah Herbert is an Early Childhood (Special Education) Teacher who is passionate about children’s education, inclusion and wellbeing.

She holds a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood – Special Education) with Distinction and a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood 0 to 8 years). Sarah has worked as a Teacher and Manager in high-quality preschool programs for the past 21 years, leading a transdisciplinary team of educators and early intervention staff.

In 2006 Sarah was the first Early Childhood Teacher to be awarded a NSW Quality Teaching Award by the Department of Education and Training.

She has led preschool programs to achieve an Exceeding and Excellence rating, and in 2018 and 2019 to achieve a finalist nomination in the national HESTA Early Childhood Education & Care Awards.

Sarah places great importance on strengths-based and family-centred practice. She is committed to implementing early education programs that enable children to reach their full potential through play and interest-based experiences.

“Sarah impressed us immensely at interview,” said IGS Principal Shauna Colnan.

“She is an enthusiastic, intelligent, experienced, positive professional who cares deeply about children. Like our new Deputy Principal Academic Operations Lisa Kelliher, Sarah won the role through a rigorous merit-based selection process.

“I know that Sarah is looking forward to meeting and working with the youngest learners at IGS, their families and her IGS colleagues.

“Having met our Director of Early Learning Rebecca Jensen-Waud, who took her on a tour of our Early Learning Centre, Sarah is very much looking forward to working with Rebecca and learning from her and from Michelle Tenkate and all colleagues in Early Learning during the handover period.”
