Girl Up! club members ran a bake sale at the IGS gates to raise funds for the refuge.
“This is about raising awareness in the school about issues girls and women face in the big world, such as sexism and stigma around feminism” said Eve of Year 9.
“It’s really important to support other women who don’t have the privilege of going to a school like ours and getting an education like ours. It’s important to give back. The women who are helped at Lou’s Place have been through so much.”
Year 11 leader Bridget said she and her friends were constantly thinking of the importance of empowering other women, not just ahead of International Women’s Day.
Audrey, of Year 7, said the event helped students understand the issues while helping other women in a practical way.
IGS thanks Pearsons Florist for donating four buckets of roses to help raise awareness of International Women’s Day and all the members of the IGS community who donated shampoo, conditioner, sanitary products, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
We also thank the IGS canteen for providing so many baked goods in aid of the cause.
