Parents and interested community members are invited to sign up for the course, which will take place over sessions, on Saturday 16 and Saturday 23 March from 9am to 3pm.
The course is designed for adults working or living with adolescents, and will provide mental health first aid skills to equip participants in giving initial help to young people experiencing mental health problems, those in a mental health crisis, or those in the early stages of a mental illness.
Course participants learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of some mental health problems young people can experience (depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse and psychosis), where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
IGS has been awarded a gold rating in Mental Health First Aid four years in a row. Click here to learn more.
