With the introduction of Mandarin language studies in the Primary School, IGS has welcomed Mandarin Teacher Linda Gu to elevate this program. Ms Gu was formally introduced at the recent Primary School assembly, sharing a fun learning activity with all students in Kindergarten to Year 6.

Also announced at the assembly was the appointment of Machiko Ohta as Assistant Head of Junior School Asian Languages, and Annamaria Ferragina as Assistant Head of Junior School European Languages.
Machiko Sensei and Ms Gu shared that in celebration of Chinese New Year, students across all Language classes from Kindergarten to Year 3 will be making Chinese dragon artworks, and there will be a prize awarded to the class that creates “the best dragon”.

Classes have been creating dragons of various shapes and sizes.
Presenting for their first time as the 2019 Year 6 Language leaders, Katerina Mitsis and Bruno Decker-Stewart shared details at the assembly of the annual Harmony Day Poster Competition, with this year’s theme being “Harmony: it’s up to us”.

“The best part of learning languages is exploring new words and being able to go to the country,” Katerina said.
“My favourite topic so far has been learning about Rome.”
“I find languages very immersive, intriguing and fun,” Bruno added. “My favourite topic so far has been ‘Target Country: Germany’.”
