Online fairy tales and other English highlights

While learning from home, IGS High School English students took a trip down memory lane, revisiting classic fairy tales.

The Year 8 students enjoyed reading extracts from their favourite fairy tales, while the remainder of the class took notes.

Students were asked to identify the features of each story and reflect on what made it engaging for the audience.

“Our storytellers received resounding applause from the class as a result of their efforts,” Head of English Miranda McCallum said.

In Year 12, English teachers have been collaborating with their teaching online during COVID-19.

“Year 12 English Teachers took turns pre-recording videos to guide students through close analysis of a text. Students were able to work at their own pace. They could pause the video to look up words or concepts, refer to notes or ask their teacher questions via a separate discussion page,” Miranda said.

Meanwhile, in Year 7, Dianne Pizarro dressed as Professor McGonagall of Harry Potter in an online lesson. She said it was particularly special to her student Sammy, whose favourite book is Harry Potter.
