New and old technology united in Woodwork project

Year 7 Woodwork students have had the opportunity to use old and new technology during their Term 3 project.

Design and Technology Teacher Ksenija Doic said the students have been busy creating a jewellery box, of pine and plywood, with a laser-cut lid.

“The design on the lid is created in Illustrator and etched onto the lid,” she said.

“The students learnt some traditional woodwork techniques, as well as how to work in Adobe Illustrator – old and new technology working together.”

Students watched on in anticipation last week, as Ksenija demonstrated how to put the box together.

Next lesson, the students will be adding lids with paddings.

Year 7 student Gemma said she is making a geometrical horse on her box, while Neve is creating a flower.
