Mr Galea goes to the front of the class

IGS thanks Deputy Head of High School Paul Galea for his dedication and leadership as he returns to the classroom next term.

Paul, an experienced teacher of PDHPE and Humanities at IGS since 1992, was appointed to the inaugural role of Deputy Head of High School in 2018, following his pioneering work as the School’s Director of Student Activities and Head of Out of School Hours Care.

“Paul has devoted himself entirely to his role, to ensure that our students are in a positive, safe and academically focused culture,” said IGS Principal Shauna Colnan.

“As Deputy Head, Paul has been unwavering in his expectations of high standards, his insistence on our students connecting with each other rather than with their devices, and in his commitment to supporting the personal achievement and wellbeing of all students.

“I have valued the guidance he has given so many teachers in the effective management of students within the High School.

“We are fortunate that Paul’s experience, wisdom and knowledge of all things IGS will continue.”

Paul will return full time to the classroom, teaching his Year 7 class and taking extra supervisions for absent teachers, within his own teaching speciality areas.

“I thank Paul for the dedication he has shown as the Deputy Head of High School over the last three and a half years and I wish him well for this next stage of his career at IGS.”

Paul said it has been a wonderful journey working with the students, staff and parents at IGS in his leadership role.

“It’s been a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows, but it has never been boring,” he said.

“I am finding the energy levels that I require to do the job the way I want to are just not the same.

“Being in the classroom with young students is pure joy. I’m looking forward to helping these young people be the best they can be.”
