With 20 years’ experience in coeducational schools across Sydney, Darren is a highly experienced Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary School Music Educator.
Darren is the Head of Music at Redlands, a whole school leadership position he has held with distinction since 2008. Prior to Darren’s appointment to Redlands, he was Coordinator of Peripatetic Music and Teacher of Music K-12 at The McDonald College of Performing Arts from 2002 to 2007. Prior to commencing at The McDonald College, Darren taught Music at Ascham.
Darren studied Piano and Voice at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music and through his training is highly regarded for his Music Curriculum Frameworks that incorporates Dalcroze, Kodály and Orff-Schulwerk methodologies in developing enriching musical learning experiences. He holds a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Music from the University of NSW and is currently completing a Masters of Educational Leadership, with a focus on Leading Learning in order to deepen his knowledge, understanding and application of effective leadership strategies and practices to create progressive 21st Century music education programs.
In addition to teaching and learning, Darren has been involved in developing a vibrant range of performance opportunities for students and has been a key stakeholder in the development, facilitation and implementation of large-scale events within school communities. Under his leadership, the Redlands Music Program has expanded significantly.
Darren is an experienced HSC Music marker and has extensive experience in integrating Harvard’s Teaching for Understanding Framework into the Redlands Music Curriculum. He comes to us as a highly regarded music educator and educational leader.
Darren is very much looking forward to joining the IGS Community, working with our amazing Music team and mentoring IGS students in their creative and artistic pursuits.
Darren will commence at IGS on Monday 31 May 2021 and we look forward to welcoming him next term.
