Interest in beach volleyball ‘spikes’ at IGS

IGS students from both Primary School and High School unveiled their talent on the sands of Manly in a recent beach volleyball competition that spanned two days.

Early rain on the first day deterred some competitors from attending, which meant the Year 5 IGS Girls’ team received some one-on-one tips from volleyball professionals.

This team was also fortunate enough to meet Australian Volleyball Olympian Mariafe Artacho del Solar, as well as some Japanese national team players.

The students’ skills and enthusiasm for volleyball increased remarkably throughout the day and they all left eager to build on their new skills.

For the High School teams competing the following day, there was a great atmosphere on the beach as many international players were training for an upcoming competition.

The IGS teams performed strongly, with the Division 2 Boys’ team winning gold, Division 1 Boys’ taking out silver, and Tess from Year 12 placing second in the composite competition.

Interest in volleyball is spiking at IGS.
