Indigenous Languages on display at IGS

On International Day, IGS was proud to focus on the Indigenous Languages in recognition of the United nations International year of Indigenous Languages.

We welcomed keynote speaker, Gumbaynggirr storyteller and Aboriginal languages teacher Michael Jarrett to the High School assembly, where he exchanged Gumbaynggirr words with students, calling on them to learn the words of his grandmothers and his grandfathers.
There was an Indigenous room where students learnt about Indigenous hunting practices through dance and a Koomurri Outback Experience. At the Primary assembly, we saw an Acknowledgement of Country delivered in Wiradjuri.
