“Underpinning this goal is the research of Weissensteiner et al (2016) who suggest the FTEM framework as we consider pathways for athletes of all abilities from Foundation, Pre Elite then finally Elite Mastery.”
See here for a good summary of the model, as well as a fantastic in-depth presentation from Dr Juanita Weissensteiner here.
“The concept of encouraging IGS students of all ability levels to be provided with an equal focus and distinct pathway of sporting opportunity is essential. This framework provides flexibility for all students, is adopted in schools and sporting organisations across Australia and provides logical and progressive development which is not age prescriptive,” Simon said.
“We are in the process of finalising the IGS Sport and Outdoor Education Strategic Plan for 2022-2024. A priority, is listening to the needs of our community so I offer the opportunity for all IGS community members to contact me at simonb@igssyd.nsw.edu.au with any questions, ideas and opportunities to support our program.
“Together, I hope we can continue to grow the opportunities students at IGS have to maximise their sporting capacities.”
