‘Grease’ is the word

Who will be our Danny, Sandy, Rizzo or Kenickie? Who will take on the important role as a member of the chorus in which they will be required to sing and dance? Who will be one of our unsung heroes, a member of the stage crew?

In 2019 IGS will stage Grease the musical! Please see audition details below.

The show will be directed by Australian Director and Designer Peter Mussared, and our very own IGS Music Teacher Nik Glass.

“I am passionate about producing musical theatre with students and believe that Grease will be the perfect fit for IGS, given its themes about individuality, identity and coming of age,” Mr Glass said.

“I look forward to working with our very vibrant student body at this exciting moment in the history of IGS.

“The show will celebrate the energetic and colourful rock ‘n’ roll era in all its musical glory.”

Mr Glass has taught for more than 20 years, directing a broad range of musical productions including The Sound of Music, Threepenny Opera, Les Misérables, Pirates of Penzance, Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and West Side Story.

See the reactions of students above, as Principal Shauna Colnan announced the news at an assembly earlier this week.

Mr Glass says he still remembers the excitement of taking part in musicals at school, and that it may be one of the most memorable experiences for IGS students.

“I recall the bright lights, an audience on the edge of their seats, and my pounding heart. It was such an incredible high!”

“But most of all I felt like I was part of something great and that I had the opportunity, along with my fellow cast members, to make a positive impact on the culture of my school while learning so much about show business, teamwork and my true potential as a performer and human being.”

Alongside Mr Glass, Peter Mussared brings a wealth of theatrical experience, both on the stage and behind the scenes.

Peter has directed shows in New York and Australia, including West Side Story which starred Hugh Jackman, has worked as a costume and scenic designer. He has also performed in numerous musicals and touring shows, including CATS.
