From the Principal

With a happy and relaxed Picnic Day, we've come to the end of the school year, with Speech Night at The State Theatre to look forward to on Monday night.

While 2021 has been another challenging year for the world and for our school community, it has also been a wonderful year of learning and achievement.

Our teachers hold the key. They create a warm, safe and supportive environment in which our children and students of all ages can learn and grow.

IGS teachers and support staff love what they do. They have worked so hard throughout the year to ensure that students’ learning continued, whether learning was happening at school or at home.

In 2021, we’ve continued to shower our students with attention, patience, praise and encouragement for their efforts, and for being who they are. And as a result, they are flourishing.

A ‘strong sense of belonging’

What has warmed my heart day by day here at school is that our students feel such a strong sense of belonging to the IGS community. Little wonder when you think about all they have achieved this year.

Each student made important leaps and bounds in their reading, writing, mathematics and language learning as well as their critical and creative thinking and their physical and emotional development.

Beyond the classroom, they made their mark on our vibrant school, too, and in a year of pandemic, our students have displayed remarkable grit, determination, adaptability and cheerfulness. They also realised how much they love their School, their friends and their teachers.

We’re so proud of our students of all ages for all they’ve achieved this year!

As we wrap up the 2021 school year, we look forward to the new year and to the exciting developments that lie ahead for our School at what is a significant historical moment for IGS.

A fresh blueprint

On Monday night at the State Theatre, I will be unveiling the new strategic plan, Into the World, 2022-2026. This blueprint for the next five years has been forged during a pandemic but with a tremendous sense of hope and optimism for the future and a deep appreciation of the fundamental role that school plays in the life of a child and young person.

IGS families are warmly invited to join our Speech Night celebrations either in person at The State Theatre or via livestream. I will be sharing an exciting picture of what we have in store for your children and for our School over the next five years and beyond. I will also be announcing Head Girl and Head Boy 2022 and announcing the 2022 School Musical.

‘Enjoy nature, books, family and friends’

I wish you all a happy holiday. I hope everyone has the chance to sleep in, spend enjoyable time with family and friends, go out and enjoy nature, and spend some time discovering new books and revisiting some of their old favourites.

To all of our families, I wish you a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to seeing you all again in 2022.
