Early Learning Professional Development

Early Learning staff enjoyed a professional development session ahead of the start of the 2020 academic year.

Their topic? “Exploring Shared Aspirations: Philosophy into Practice in the context of the National Quality Standard.”

The session was facilitated by highly experienced Education and Care Consultant Jessica Horne-Kennedy.

IGS Director of Early Learning Sarah Herbert said the day flowed from and connected to the IGS Staff Conference held in the previous week, with the theme of collaboration.

It gave the Early Learning (EL) team “highly valued time together to reflect on our shared aspirations for children and the philosophy underpinning all that we do in EL at IGS.”

“Early Learning teachers and educators actively and enthusiastically delved into creative activities promoting reflection and connection to the IGS values through the creation of ‘values postcards’,” she said.

“We engaged in group activities to review our understanding of the National Quality Standards relevant to early childhood education and care services, and how these connect to our work. We considered the strengths of our team and service, to begin to plan goals and direction for the coming year.

“We finished the day with many departure points developed collaboratively by the EL team – many ideas, thoughts and intentions to be carried forward and reflected on in our plan for the year ahead.”
