Clubs, co-curricular opportunities and connection

At IGS, two of our most important values are connectedness and personal achievement. They go a long way to creating our warm and inclusive community.

Read on to find out about our policy on mobile phones and computer games, and about the many clubs and activities we offer.

To promote communication, students in Years 7 to 9 must leave their phones in their lockers at the beginning of the school day. They are not allowed to access them again until after the final period. We believe this frees students from the distractions imposed on them by social media and mobile phone technology. Our approach is consistent with global research literature which suggests that young people need time away from their devices. Computer games are not allowed at IGS for the same reason.

Year 7 students enjoy many opportunities to connect with their peers from other classes and year groups. People with similar interests connect and form the bonds of our vibrant community.

Students in Year 7 can take part in activities before school, at lunch times and after school in diverse areas such as sport, music, drama, debating and robotics. Our Clubs program offers everything from Minecraft to Mafia Club and from knitting to War Gaming!

You will forge wonderful friendships at IGS. I look forward to welcoming you in person.
