Learning at IGS
International Grammar School (IGS) is an independent, co-educational and secular school offering quality teaching for early learning (preschool and transition), primary and high school students through to Year 12.
Our inner-city school provides a friendly and nurturing environment. Our core values reflect a charter of diversity, individual and social responsibility and respect for self and others. Each student is encouraged to set academic and personal goals and directions. We support our students with an extensive student care program.
IGS offers a bilingual partial immersion languages program for all students from early learning to the end of primary school, and a strong high school languages program up to Higher School Certificate level. Languages include French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin) and Spanish.
Our music program also starts in early learning, and is based on the principles of Orff Schulwerk, where children enjoy directed listening, performance and composition.
Our primary school program balances sound learning skills with innovation and creativity. The high school curriculum provides flexibility and choice. IGS develops senior students who achieve excellent academic results while growing into independence with integrity.
There are currently 1,200 students enrolled at IGS.

The globe on our school logo represents our perspective and our place in the world; the arc, which spans the globe, represents the bridges we are building between people and cultures.
IGS students in Years 7–12 select a personal technological device (e.g. laptop, tablet) to match their learning needs under the School’s Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program.
